AORC entrants to grab their golden tickets

With two rounds of the 2024 BFGoodrich Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship in the bank and another days away, entries have now opened for the 2024 Markwell Gold City 450.

Moving from series-opener to the fourth round in its second year on the calendar, the 450-kilometre Queensland challenge could prove pivotal in the championship standings ahead of the final round in Kalgoorlie.

Competitors will return to the Millchester Motorsport Facility in 2024, the varied course located an hour and a half outside of Townsville in Charters Towers.

With a view to improve the course, 15km of additional track has been added for this year’s event – increasing the total length of a lap to 55km.

In addition to the extended track length, organisers have opted for the widening and removal of last year’s tightest corners as well as completed upgrades to service roads around the course.

The event’s 450 competitive kilometres will comprise of a 10km Transportable Shade Sheds Prologue, two sections of 165km each and one 110km section – the sections representing three and two laps of the course respectively.

Competitors will begin their campaigns on Saturday with Transportable Shade Sheds Prologue in the morning followed by Section One in the afternoon, while Section Two and Section Three will run on Sunday.

The inaugural Gold City 450 was decided in historic fashion in 2023, with James Cook and Mitch Aucote becoming the first SXS duo to claim an outright AORC victory.

Entries for this year’s event will remain open until 6pm AEST on Friday 16 August 2024, with the full entry list to be published the following Monday.
